Trade
[OLD GUIDE COPY]
Buying, selling, and trading are all very important parts of the game. These are three things you must learn how to do -- and do well -- if your character is going to have enough money to survive.

Trading with NPC
NPC's (Non Player Characters) have a fixed range of goods that they sell. They will also buy items from you.
This guide uses Merchant Geres, Juno's general merchant NPC, as an example. When you see Merchant Geres, you can click on her or her name to open up the screen on the left.

Buying from NPC
Choose option "Buy" to open up Merchant Geres' shop window:
Here you can choose what you want to buy. Hover your mouse cursor over items to see their names and what they cost. Click on items for additional details like their weight and description. Double-click on an item or drag it down into the lower, empty section to select it for purchase. For items like manuals, gems, and potions, a window will open up and ask you to type in the amount you want to buy. Pretend we want to buy 1 Medium Healing Potion. |
The item(s) you want to buy will appear in the lower part of the window. The total cost of gold is shown below that, right above the "Buy" button. To the right of the "Buy" and "Cancel" buttons the total amount of gold in our inventory is displayed.
As you can see, the Medium Healing Potion costs 3,420 gold. We press "Buy" to buy the item! 3,420 gold is removed from our inventory and the Medium Healing Potion is added.
Selling to NPC
Choose option "Sell" to open up Merchant Geres' shop window:

The total income of gold is shown below that, right above the "Sell" button. To the right of the "Sell" and "Cancel" buttons the total amount of gold in our inventory is displayed. |
Merchant Mode
Selling your wares is a great way to make money!
To open a shop first you have to press Alt+J or J. Then you should see a window pop up:
To open a shop first you have to press Alt+J or J. Then you should see a window pop up:
Click on the shield like icon (Merchant Mode).
Note: You must be at least level 10 to open a shop. You may only open a shop in town.
Note: You must be at least level 10 to open a shop. You may only open a shop in town.
You should now see a window similar to the big one pictured to the left. The lower part of the window shows your inventory. To add something to your shop just double-click on it or drag it from the bottom to the upper 'Product' section. A box will pop up asking you how much you want to sell the item for. Type in your price then click "Confirm". If there is more than one of that item in your inventory, another box will pop up and ask you to confirm the amount of that item you want to sell. Once you have made sure that the right amount is in there, click "Confirm" again.
Note: Do not use commas or any other sort of punctuation in your price. Just type in the numbers in the correct order. IMPORTANT: Count those zeros! The thing you are going to sell will now show up in the top part of your shop window. Repeat this process with the rest of the items. Note: You can fit a total of ten different types of items in your shop. |
Once you have all your items ready for sale, type a shop name in at the bottom of the window and click "Opening Sale" to open your shop. Its name will appear in white lettering with a thin green border:
You can even open a package for sale! You're allowed to put up to five items in a package. People who are selling packages get that big golden box for a shop sign, instead of just the normal green one. Compare the previous sample sign with the sample sign below.
To sell a package, you must first click the checkbox on the right-hand side of the shop window. Now drag the items you want to package from your inventory in the bottom part of the screen and up into the package box. Once all the package items are in there, type in a price next to the little pile of gold. Don't worry about the "Confirm" button not lighting up -- that's not there for you! Just type in the package price, then when you open your shop, you will have a package!
Checking the checkbox is like saying "I know I must pay tax for this". This is why this reminder pops up if you don't check that first. The tax is 2% of your earnings on all the items that are in your shop at the time, not just in the package. Taxes will be automatically deducted from anything you sell while in package mode. These taxes go to whichever guild owns Kandant Castle for the server group you play on.
Direct trade with players
To trade, you first must select the character or name of the player you want to trade with. Then hit the hotkey ALT+A or A to open up the General actions menu and click the icon that says "Exchange."
You may trade with anyone at any time, except when you or they are engaged in Merchant Mode. Your "target" character that you wish to trade with must be within visible range, which is about 20 meters (the edge of the compass). Equipment may not be equipped or unequipped while trading, potions may not be used, and your inventory may not be rearranged. You may, however, move around, attack, and talk while performing a trade.
Once you have selected the character or name of the player you want to trade with, this window will pop up. On the other player's screen it will show a window saying that you're wanting to trade, ans ask whether the other player wants to "Confirm" or "Cancel" the trade with you. You only get the "Cancel" option, since you are the one who initiated the trade.

Once the other player has accepted your invitation to trade, the trade window opens:
As you can see in the background of this screenshot, my character is next to kaliyuga--the person I'm trading with--to perform this trade. This is the way most trades are done, simply because clicking on someone else's character makes your character run over to them. Like in the Merchant Mode window, the trade window has three sections, with your inventory displayed in the bottom section. The amount of gold you have is also displayed, at the bottom of the window under your inventory but above the buttons. Please note the highlighting of the buttons at the very bottom. Right now they show that you are still in the process of deciding what you want to put into your half of the trade window. To input your items into the trade window, find them in the inventory part of the window and double-click on their icons. If there is more than one of the item you want to trade, you will have to specify the amount.
Keep in mind that you can fit a maximum of ten different types of items into the trade window. Also, there is always room to add money in, since it has its own little section. |
Once you have input all of the items you want to trade, click the "Confirm" button. Your items will become highlighted by a bright, fuzzy, white glow around their edges. Again, look at the highlighting of the buttons at the bottom of the window. Right now they show that you have checked and are satisfied with the items you put into the trade window. Once the other person hits their "Confirm" button, the items they are trading you will be surrounded by the bright, fuzzy, white glow as well.
You will know that the other person has checked your items and is satisfied with them when the"Trade" button becomes highlighted. Always check the items the other person isgiving you, then click your "Trade" button. As soon as the other person hits theirs, the trade will automatically be completed and you will each receive the other person's traded goods. |
When trading pets, be sure to check the pet's level every single time. People selling pets below average market prices are usually trying to scam you. The pet scam is very common and many people fall for it. To avoid it, take your time, check the things you are getting, and don't be afraid to just say "No thanks, I changed my mind about it." If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. Don't be blinded by excitement or greed.
Signs of a pet scammer include:
- Repeated closing/opening of the trade window.
- Excuses about lagging, bumping the wrong key, mouse malfunctions, little brothers, forgetting "something," etc.
- Asking you to hurry or saying that they're in a rush and have to leave/go to sleep/eat/shutdown, etc.
- Threatening that they may sell the cheap pet to someone else.
- Saying the pet isn't worth much to them any more and they just want to dump it.
- Finally swapping the pet out for a level 1 after some or all of the above things have happened.
