Chatting
[OLD GUIDE COPY]
There are two different types of 'channels' to chat with.
There are eight different types of chat: General (no function), Whisper(!), Party (@), Guild (#), Transaction ($), Shout (%), Full (&) and Merchant (*). There is also System chat, but it is for system messages and not players.
General chat is used by simply typing what you have to say. All the players within your radar will receive what you type and will appear in white text.
To send a whisper, type "!name message", remembering the space, replacing the name with your receiver's name and the message with your desired message. Names must be spelled out all the way and spelled correctly. Watch out for letters that look the same such a a lower case "L" versus an uppercase "i" as well as zero "0" versus an uppercase "o". Whispers both sent and received by you will appear in your chat box in yellow. You may send whispers to anyone as long as he or she is on the same subserver as you.
Party chat is for talking with members of your party. You can use party chat by typing a "@" at the beginning of your message. All members of your party will get your message and it will appear in blue text.
Guild chat is used to talk with other guild members. You can use guild chat by typing a "#" at the beginning of your message. All members of your party will get your message even if they are on a different subserver. Guild chat messages appear in pinkish/purple.
Transaction chat can be used in town to make your messages stand out a bit. These are sent by typing a "$" at the beginning of your message and appear in green text to all those within your radar.
Shout chat is used to broadcast a message you may have to others in town. These are send when you put a "%" at the beginning of your message. When you send something using the shout chat, all the players in the town get your message in orange text -- they do not need to be within your radar.
Full channel chat is used to talk to players on other subservers. It requires you to switch to 'Channel chatting mode' in order to use this feature. You can only see what is being said in the 'Channel chatting mode' if you clicked on it.
Merchant channel chat is used to talk and advertise what you are selling to players on other subservers. It requires you to switch to 'Channel chatting mode' in order to use this feature. The cost of this feature is 10 gold per character. You can only see what is being said in the 'Channel chatting mode' if you clicked on it.
Some of these chats can be used by clicking on the appropriate tab above the textbox where you enter your messages. These are General, Party, Guild, and Transaction chats. All this does is save you the trouble of having to type the special character for that chat at the beginning by automatically inserting it for you.
Friends list
Every MMORPG has an in-game friend's list. To access Last Chaos' friend's list window, hit F or ALT+F. You can also open this window by pressing the Messenger hotbutton displayed under your character's name in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
Friends are displayed with their character's name and a small icon detailing which class that character is. Online friends have bright icons and offline friends have dark icons. When a friend comes online, their name and icon are automatically moved to the top of your list.

Status Settings Every person has three different status options they can choose from. To see your options, click on the little down-arrow that's beneath the x in the top right of the friend's list window. In the screenshot on the right, my current status is "Online." If I set it to "Absence," a little red circle with a line through it will appear beside my character icon. This is a good status to use when you are busy. If I set it to "Offline," my character icon will appear dark. When your status is set to "Offline," your friends will not be able to chat with you and other people will not be able to add you as a friend. You may still send and recieve messages via the chatbox though.

Adding Friends
To add a friend to your list, hit the "Add" button. This window will come up and ask you to input the name of your friend. Once you've hit "Confirm," a message will be sent to the person asking if they agree to being on your friend's list.
The max number of friends that you may have on your friend's list is currently 50. This amount may be increased in the future.
When adding friends, keep in mind that all names are case-sensitive. Also, you may not add people who are offline or are on a different server.

Deleting Friends
To remove a friend from your list, hit the "Delete" button. This window will come up. Into the text area, type the name of the person that you wish to delete, then hit "Confirm." Their name will be removed from your list and your name will be removed from theirs. No confirmation is necessary from them. You may also delete a friend by right-clicking their name on your friend's list and selecting the "Delete" option. Doing that saves you from having to type their name out (which can be tough, since it is case-sensitive). |
Blocking Friends
You can block a friend by hitting the "Block" button and typing their name in, or right-clicking on their name and selecting the "Block" option. If you choose to block someone by inputting their name into the block-window's text box, remember that it's case-sensitive. Many people seem to miss this part of the friend's list. It's the second tab, labeled "Blocked list." This one is to the right of the tab labeled "Friends list." The blocked list shows all your blocked friends (and/or enemies). If you put someone on your blocked list, they will never be able to add you as a friend. If you have 2 players on your 'Blocked list', you will only be able to have a maximum of 48 players on your 'Friends list'. |
Groups
You may organize your added friends into groups. To do this, click on the "Group" button. You will be presented with three options--you can add a new group, delete a group, or change a group's name. If you choose to delete a group or change a group's name, the little yellow arrows will expand into another menu and allow you to pick the group you want to do that for.
All your friends are automatically placed in the group titled "Friends." You can create other groups and move friends into them, but be warned that sometimes your changes don't stick. For me, I've found that if I create more than two groups, all my friends in all the groups will be moved back into the default one next time I log in. Also, if you use more than two groups you are likely to run into a small glitch that will only allow you to "copy" friends out of the main group and into new ones, insted of completely moving them from the main to the new.
Maybe you noticed the little minus sign by the "Friends" group name? Click that to minimize the group. Minimizing a group saves you scrolling time and frustration, as well as makes your list easier to look at and read. To maximize a group again, hit the plus sign.
In order to move a friend into a group, all you have to do is drag-and-drop. You may also move friends between groups by right-clicking on their names and selecting the "Move Group" option.

Messaging Friends
Messaging someone is simple. Just double-click their name on your friend's list! If they're online, a window similar to the one on the right will open up for you. Your cursor should be automatically moved to the text area, so to send them a message just start typing. Then hit Enter.

Every time someone messages you, this window will come up and your cursor will be moved to the text area. This can be quite annoying to anyone who's in the middle of a fight or is trying to talk to another person at the same time. Be careful about your message timing, you wouldn't want your friend to end up dying because you interrupted their hotkey flow. You also wouldn't want to end up causing them to accidentally send you half of a conversation that was supposed to go to someone else.
Did you know you can change the color of your message text? To do so, click on the down arrow that's on the far right side of the text area. A grid of nine colors will open up. Move your mouse over the one you want and click on it. Your chosen text color will only affect your messages after they are sent. All things typed in the text area will still appear white. Everyone's default text color is white, so to change back to that just select the white square. |
Who's In Here With Me?
To see who else is in the message window with you, click on the down arrow on the far right of the "Members in chat" bar. The names of the message participants will be listed for you on the window's right. As you can see in the screenshot above, there are just two participants in this messenger window. But you can add more!

To add people to a messenger window, open your friend's list and drag and drop their name/icon in there! They must be online, of course.
