Awakening
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) You've awoken, Shadow Knight. How's the memory? Missing? Relax. Pull up a seat and listen, if you wish to know about your clan.˜ End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) You must be curious about history, both for you and your clan. After all, for a clan to hide this long, there must be a very important reason. Right? |

Piercing the Shadow
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) Maybe it's not time for me to tell you the whole story yet. When it's time, I will call for you. Go to Antiquities Dealer Remton for now. End: Antiquities Dealer Remton (Egeha) Perhaps I'm not the one who should start you on the stories. When it's time, I will call for you. Until then, Antiquities Dealer Remton will start you out with the basics. |

Organized Shadow
Start: Antiquities Dealer Remton (Egeha) Your clan vanished after only a short while but you left quite an impression on us. Where should I start? The vanishing? Beck? Hmm, no. Beck will be important, but not for while. I'll get to him later. Night Shadow society is built on capability. The strongest, most capable are at the top. To reach a certain rank, the individual must overcome their superior, usurping their position. In fact, the only way to retire was to train someone better and stronger than yourself... But this also presented problems. Shall we go back to where all the trouble began? End: Antiquities Dealer Remton (Egeha) Shadow Lord is the highest rank in Night Shadow society. Next are the Priests and Prophets. They advised the Shadow Lord, but the lord had final say. One of the issues with this, of course, is that nobody will challenge a vicious enough Shadow Lord, who is by definition the most vicious, dangerous person in the clan. But I digress... |

The Eyes of the Prophet
Start: Antiquities Dealer Remton (Egeha) The last Shadow Lord died unexpectedly. Neither successor, Beck or Carrek, had earned the right to lead. The solution, as decided by the elders, was to summon the spirit of the former Shadow Lord. Whichever heir defeated the spirit would lead the tribe. The problem was, both heirs defeated the shade. Quite easily, in fact. Since technically there were two absolute leaders, the Elders decided that Beck, a brutish warrior, and Carrek, a mighty magician, would face each other. The elders decided on a trial by combat. The trial by combat directly favored Beck, where a trial of wits would favor Carrek. The elders deliberately chose combat, wanting Beck as the next Shadow Lord. Carrek knew Beck was stronger, and he stood no chance in a toe to toe fight. So he sought advice. End: Antiquities Dealer Remton (Egeha) That night, Carrek visited the Prophet Grei. Grei was gifted (some would say cursed) with eyes that pierced the veil of time. His left eye saw only the present and his right eye saw only the future. The Night Shadows respected him utterly. |

The Prophet's Fear
Start: Antiquities Dealer Remton (Egeha) To understand the story of Carrek and Grei, you must first understand Grei. The morning Carrek went to see Grei, Grei was struck with a vision of horrible power. The vision showed the tribe broken, ravaged by war, betrayal and death. As his vision faded, a final image burned in his mind. He saw himself, dying alone, bloody and reviled by all. Grei wanted to change the future he saw. He wanted to change destiny. If you wish to know how this affected Carrek, speak to Spirit Magician Heras. End: Spirit Magician Heras (Egeha) At the same time Grei wanted to change his destiny, Carrek came to Grei for advice. Without Grei's help, Carrek would die and Beck would lead the tribe. Grei decided to help Carrek; he believed only with Carrek's leadership could they avoid the future he saw. |

The Price of Shadows
Start: Spirit Magician Heras (Egeha) Believing the fate of the tribe was at stake, Carrek and Grei hatched a plan. The day of the battle was absolute chaos. Before the trial could even start, the entire clan was ambushed by Fungens. Grei tipped off the sworn enemies, giving them the location and the time. Grei knew the Night Shadows would defeat the invaders, but he had no idea how costly the battle would be. Many died that fateful day. Even the mighty Beck suffered a severe injury. Believing he failed his people, Beck stepped down, proclaiming Carrek Shadow Lord. If only the story ended there... End: Spirit Magician Heras (Egeha) The plan succeeded, but there were problems. Carrek, wracked with guilt, blamed Grei for the all casualties of the ambush. He believed Grei should have shared his vision with the entire tribe, or at least tried to come up with another solution. Deep down, he didn't believe Grei truly wanted to help the Night Shadows. As absolute ruler, he decided Grei needed punishment. Carrek ordered Grei brought before him and beaten. Carrek himself tore out Grei's far-seeing eye. As in Grei's own vision, he lay on the floor, beaten, bloody and reviled by all. That was only part of Grei's vision. |

An Unfinished Tale
Start: Spirit Magician Heras (Egeha) I have told you what I know, but it is by no means a complete picture. Beldam Juriel can tell you more, she actually spoke with Beck. Seek Beldam out if you want more of this tale. End: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) Finally, the Night Shadows awaken. [Cough] |

The Prophet's Lie
Start: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) (Cough) You want Night Shadow Stories? You want to know about Beck and the Shadow Door, hmm? On your own head be it, then. I'm not sure what you've heard, but keep in mind these events happened long ago. People's memories change, the very stories change. I will tell you what I know, you decide the truth. You already know Grei told Carrek about the prophecy. What you don't know is that Grei told Carrek about a second prophecy, one he made up. Grei said he saw Beck recovering and killing Carrek, taking the position of Shadow Lord for himself. The only way to avert future bloodshed, according to Grei, was to go to Iris and make sure Beck never came back. (Cough) Before I tell you any more, you must prove yourself to me. Arch Liches inhabit the 9th and 10th floors of Egaha Dungeon. Kill one and bring me it's lost wing. (Cough) End: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) (Cough) It's time to regain the use of those lost wings. Beck will be happy about this. He told me if a Night Shadow ever learns the legends and tales of his clan, I should reward them. If they prove worthy, that is. According to Beck, even a broken Night Shadow is still a Night Shadow. No coward could ever be a Night Shadow. (Cough, Cough) |

A Wing and a Prayer
Start: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) I think it's time to go see the Patriarch Zikil. You're ready to hear the rest, but I don't think I'll be able to tell it to you. (Cough) It's not that I don't want to, but my health is not what it was... See Patriarch Zikil. Give him this wing, he'll repay you and finish the tale. (Cough) End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) We meet again. And it looks like the lost wings have found a new owner. Your movement is much easier, hmmm? Quicker on your feet? |

Beldam Juriel
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) Hmm, well you've completed all my tasks. Go see Beldam Juriel for the next story. End: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) (Cough) Beck should have been here with me. Where did I stop? I think I am getting old... I am forgetting things. |

Hearts in Shadow
Start: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) Where we left off, the Night Shadows were on the brink of civil war. Carrek, listening to Grei, was travelling to Isis to finish off Beck. Carrek brought all his loyal soldiers, while Beck, healing in Isis, was surrounded by his own soldiers. No matter the winner, the result would be bloodshed. When Carrek arrived in Isis, he sought out Beck. Carrek expected Beck to fight, he expected rage, he expected anything other than the look of confusion he saw on his brother's face. As he tried to explain things to Beck, Carrek realized the depths of Grei's betrayal. Carrek wanted to return to Ascadia, but the way was blocked. In the meantime, Grei declared himself Shadow Lord. Grei did indeed see the future. He just chose the future he wanted. Go to Battle Leader Koon for rest of the stories. End: Battle Leader Koon (Egeha) What do you think Carrek should've done? The betrayal was complete, his people divided with no way to return. There was nothing more he could do. He decided on vengeance, as it was all he had left. Using the mightiest magic at his disposal, he transported his people into the deepest darkest shadows. They would wait there, preparing, until such time as the Shadow Door next opened. |

A Shadow's Purpose
Start: Battle Leader Koon (Egeha) I'm not actually one for histories. Me, I stay here because I owe Beck my life. Beck was the only Night Shadow that wasn't sucked away to the shadows. Great Magician Minearm kept him here, actually. We'd never seen anything like Beck before, we thought he was some Tairen creature. Only Minearm saw the truth. Only Minearm stayed our hands. Do you wish to know what kind of person he was? End: Battle Leader Koon (Egeha) Beck... He was our hero. No one had ever seen anything as strong as him. His dark aspect may have frightened a few, but he fought on our side. He tried to repay us for our help and we were lucky to have such a one as him. |

Shadows Beckon
Start: Battle Leader Koon (Egeha) Though Beck fought for us, his heart was with his clan. We all knew his memories brought him great pain. Everyone knew he would one day open the Shadow Door and return to his people, but nobody talked about it. I heard he wrote a letter to the Night Shadows, though. Go to Beldam Juriel if you want to know more. End: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) This about the letter? |

Shadow's Farewell
Start: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) One day, Beck was gone. Nobody expected it, nobody knew anything about it. All we had was this letter left on his bed. The letter's still sealed. You should be the one to open it. Go ahead. (Cough) End: Beldam Juriel (Egeha) I guess he's not alone anymore. |
