Ebony Mine Reconnaisance
Start: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) I've got a bad feeling about this... Chief Whiller and his guards went scouting the Ebony Mine and they haven't returned yet. We haven't heard anything; we fear the worst. Would you look for traces of them at the Ebony Mine? The rest of the guards must maintain our presence here, besides, we're not trained scouts. If you find Chief Whiller, ask him what happened. We need him back here, quickly. End: Guard Chief Whiller (Ebony Mine) [Gasping] |

Lend Aid!
Start: Guard Chief Whiller (Ebony Mine) You have to help us! The corruption took the other guards, what's left of them roam the mines. If I don't get out of here soon, the they might take me too. I need you to take this letter to the Royal Guard Captain in Randol. Tell him to send help. End: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) Captain Whiller and his guards were attacked? This is foul news indeed. You deserve something for your effort, please take this. |

Sound Blaster
Start: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) We don't have much time. According to Whiller's letter, an Evil Force inhabits the darkest pits of the Ebony Mine. Whiller states the spirit hates loud noises. Take this Bugle. It's the loudest one we've got. Go deep into the heart of Ebony Mine. Fight your way past the corrupted soldiers and blow that Bugle `till your veins pop and your eardrums bleed. I want that Evil Spirit to feel every howl, every vibration. Once you've pissed it off enough, kill it. End: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) It's done? Good. You found a box? That's an odd-looking one, can I see it? Note: To spawn Croythe use Bugle in Ebony Mine at coordinates (439, 56). |

Uncomfortable Truths
Start: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) I opened that box you brought me. Since the only thing in it was this key, I think I need to tell you a story. It's quite a tale, actually. It's got Evil Spirits, new continents, even invading armies. Listen well, for the choices you make will change the face of Iris. For good or ill. End: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) This key matched a lock. That lock protected a book. That book held secrets, many secrets. The book was a diary, the diary records histories of Iris, but it also mentioned legends from another continent. Penned by the Great Magician Calisian, this diary chronicled his studies and adventures on the newly-discovered Iris. Yes, Calisian came here from the continent he calls Ascadia. Through his writings, we've learned we have terrible enemies with plans of invasion. We will not be the victims here. Read this book. Prepare yourself for what lies ahead. |

Voyage to Merac
Start: Royal Guard Captain Athi (Juno) Show this key to Magician Minearm to hear the next part of the story. Keep this key secure, it's worth more than your very soul. Once you find the rest of the keys, the hidden door to Ascadia will open. We must open it on our side before the Ascadians do the same on their side. We don't have much time. End: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) Listen carefully to what I'm about to tell you. It is imperative you understand what's contained in this book. |

Calisian's Journal, Part 1
Start: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) Listen, while I translate this aloud: "I pray someone finds this. This journal is the last complete record of my story. Everyone who knows the story is dead or worse. I fear what will happen if people must rely on rumor and half-truths... At times, even I doubted the truth of what I saw, what I felt. Before he comes for me, I must write down everything I know. May someone, anyone read this. I pray the truth gets out." End: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) I believe the author was being chased by someone, someone dangerous. He was obviously very afraid. Here is the second part. |

Calisian's Journal, Part 2
Start: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) Are you ready to hear more? Listen well. End: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) Tairen's soldiers were slaughtering us. Our armies could not face them in combat. Rogen, my colleague and confidant, decided to pool her strength with mine. It wasn't enough. We drew upon the spirits of earth, sky and wind. It still wasn't enough. We sought other powerful creatures, even the holy essence of Ascadia itself. It was finally enough. Channeling the mightiest of forces, we were able to vanquish Tairen's armies. Their spirits broken, Tairen's soldiers disappeared. We sundered his soul into a thousand pieces. I scattered the lesser pieces while Rogen guarded the Red Spirit, the strongest of them all. Everything went according to plan. |

Shaman's Darkest Shadow Door
Start: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) To continue my translation of the journal, I need the second key to the Shadow Door. Listen well. A long time ago, we received reports of a shaman named Oranthes at the Misty Canyon in Merac. We were shocked. Oranthes was a hero to our people, but he was believed to have been killed by heretics. We sent an envoy to welcome him, but it was not the Oranthes we knew. All our envoy found was a demon spirit wearing the skin of our shaman. This false Oranthes has the second key. We've been searching for a way to return him to his old self, but to no avail. All we can do now is release Oranthes from his suffering. Travel to the depths of the Misty Canyon and summon him with this stone. When the Dark Spirit of Oranthes appears, put him to rest. End this and bring me the second key. End: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) May you finally find peace, Oranthes. Now, let us read on... Note: To spawn Shaman Oranthes use A Gem of Great Magician Minearm in Misty Canyon at coordinates (203, 567). |

Calisian's Journal, Part 3
Start: Great Magician Minearm (Merac) Each key has a unique inscription. So far, each inscription matched the cipher for a different part of Calisian's journal. We needed the final key to complete the translation. Patriarch Zikil awaits you in Egeha. Take the third part of the journal to him, he will translate it for you. End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) You've traveled far to translate this. I'll not keep you waiting much longer. The nearest translation I can get says: "I sealed the pieces of Tairen's spirit into small boxes, inscribed with mighty hexes. Anyone foolish enough to open one shall suffer my wrath. I gave the boxes to my acolytes to scatter to the four corners of Ascadia. Only I know the locations of every box, and the darkness they held." That's it for the third section. |

Parts 4 and 5
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) Here is the next translation: "Our plan succeeded with surprising ease. Our mistake was complacency. We thought we'd vanquished Tairen forever, that the horror was over. It was our hubris, our mistake, our failure. Fear and despair sank deep talons into the minds of my men. One by one, my acolytes fell under the influence of the spirits. The ones who were resistant killed themselves, lest they become possessed. The others became lost, wandering at the beck and call of half-heard whispers. Perhaps it was an ill wind. Perhaps we missed some of Tairen's spirits... Whatever the cause, by the time I noticed something amiss, it was too late." Despite the mightiest of efforts, Calisian's plan failed. We must learn from his failures, so that we do not repeat his mistakes. I fear to read the next part. I'm sure it only gets worse... End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) "While Ascadia looked peaceful, it was all a facade. My acolytes were not the only ones losing to temptation, Rogen was suffering as well. The Red Spirit whispered to her, night and day. It taunted, lied, cajoled and wheedled. One by one, her defenses crumbled. I only wish that she'd asked me for help sooner. Once again, I was too late. By the time I realized what was happening, she was beyond help." I pity Rogen, what pain she must have suffered! I wonder how long she endured Tairen's temptation? |

Undercover
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) We need the next key if we're to complete the translation. There are rumors of Heretics gathering in Egeha's Floraim's Cave. Missionary Tion, who leads these dark sacrifices, uses the third key to the Shadow Door in his rituals. Tion is cautious, it will be difficult to draw him out. Your best bet will be acting as a member of his cult. You're first step is a disguise. Find one of his followers outside of the cave, kill him and steal his clothes. Earn Tion's trust, take his key and repay him with a blade. End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) It's a cultist gown! This will make a great disguise. |

Darkest Betrayal
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) Go to Floraim's Cave in Egeha for the last key. Remember: there are certain regions where your missionary disguise will be of use. If you wear this gown and disguise yourself as a Black Missionary, Missionary Tion will appear. Kill Tion, wrest the third key from his cold, dead hands. End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) You collected all of the keys? Now to finish the translation. Note: To spawn Tion use Missionary Robes in Floraim's Cave at coordinates (172, 424). |

Parts 6 and 7
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) By combining all three key ciphers, I can finish translating Calisian's Diary. Here's the next section: "Everything collapsed one fateful morning. The sun had almost risen, but the land seemed uneasy. Until we met Rogen, we didn't know just how bad things were. We met her at the Forest of Conception. The sacred forest was reduced to ashes, not a single living thing remained. Our hearts full of dread, we found Rogen weeping in the middle of her forest. We don't know what happened, we only know her mind was destroyed. Weeping and gibbering, she pledged obedience to Tairen. As her lips formed the words, the sadness, the emotions, the very life drained out of her. The face that stared up at us was that of a stranger. From the ashes of the Forest of Conception, the darkness would blanket all Ascadia." It is with a heavy heart that I go to the final section. End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) After the release of the Red Spirit, the Tairen army returned. Their goal was clear: find the boxes containing the shards of spirit. Even Rogen acted under the guise. Tairen controlled her body, who knew what was left of her mind. Only I know the locations, but I fear I won't be able to withstand him again..." The situation sounds dire. |

Completing the Key
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) The final part of the diary ends suddenly: "The situation grows more dire than we thought. Not only is Tairen resurgent on Ascadia, he's sent agents to Iris. Shaman Oranthes opened the Shadow Door..." Tairen corrupts all he touches. We will not let this stand. We know his agents, we know his plans, now is the time to strike. It is high time we use these keys. Combine the keys to open the Shadow Door. End: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) This key will open the door to victory! |

Door to Another Land
Start: Patriarch Zikil (Egeha) Now is the time to open the Shadow Door. It has been said that whosoever carries the Shadow Key through the Shadow Door will carry the imprint on their soul, forever. Now, take this key to Ascadia. Lend what aid you can and end Tairen once and for all! End: Prime Minister Erbe (Mondshine) Welcome, stranger, to Ascadia! The key to the Shadow Door is now inscribed on your heart. You can pass through the Shadow Door at any time. |
