Gathering materials
[OLD GUIDE COPY]
There are three different types of raw materials that may be gathered. These are stones, energy waves, and herbs. Each type is further broken down into three different kinds of materials.
Look at the maps below to see where clusters of each type of raw material are located. Only Juno and Dratan have these clusters. Merac and Egeha have no places where raw materials may be gathered. The blue dots are mines, the red dots are energy circles, and the green dots are herb patches. All of these areas are "safe zones" like the towns are, so don't worry about being attacked while gathering.

If you look at Dratan's map, you may notice that there are three, special material gathering areas marked on it. These are the Mudika Mine, Hizal Energy Cluster, and Serel Farm. All three of the areas are labeled "private land." The private lands were created for the people who do not have enough SP or do not care to increase the levels of their gathering skills. When you gather from one of the private lands, you will gather with the same speed of someone who has Advanced Level 3 of the related gathering skill. But! This skill boost is not free. You have to pay 30 gold for every single raw material that you get. All money paid for materials gathered from the private lands will go to the guild that owns Dratan Castle.
Stone mining
To mine, you need to have a Pick Axe or a Hammer. These can both be bought from Merchant Geres (in Juno) or Merchant Tino (in Dratan) for 1,000gold each. Males use Pick Axes and females use Hammers. There are three male and three female classes, so there are three different Pick Axes and three different Hammers. Before you buy one, click on it to make sure that it's for your class type and not just your character's gender.
Resources to gather from
There are two kinds of resources in a mine. One is called an Ore Vein and the other is called an Ore Mine. If you ask someone about the difference between them, you will most likely be told that they produce different kinds of stones. This is not true. Both resources produce the same stones.
So if they both produce the same thing, why do they have different names? To help you differentiate between the type of resources that they are. Ore Veins are temporary resources. They will wear out and disappear after about 10 minutes of being gathered from. Ore Mines, on the other hand, are permanent resources. These stay forever. Since Ore Veins are temporary resources, they will produce stones for you faster than Ore Mines will.

o mine from an Ore Vein (or Ore Mine), click on it. The window on the left should pop up. As you can see, it is asking you to choose between random production and selective production. If you choose to mine randomly, you will have a chance of receiving any of the three different kinds of stones in any order. If you choose to mine selectively, then you will have to specify which stone type you want. Many people mine selectively because they say that they do not want or have no need for the other two types of stones. However, what they don't realize is that selective mining is much much slower than random mining.

Energy absorbing
To absorb energy, you need to have an Energy Collector. Energy Collectors can be bought from Merchant Geres (in Juno) or Merchant Tino (in Dratan) for 1,000gold each. While all Energy Collectors look the same, they are actually class-specific. Make sure that you buy an Energy Collector for your class, or else you will not be able to equip it!

Tool Aids
Tool Aids boost your tool production output. That means that they make you gather "more" in "less" time. In actual fact, you end up gathering less than you would have if you'd just gathered randomly from a temporary resource. But you definitely do end up getting more stuff for the amount of time you spend. When using a Tool Aid, it takes between 5 and 60 seconds to get the materials that you're gathering for.
To use a Tool Aid on one of your production tools, you need to equip the tool and drag the Tool Aid's icon from your inventory, up over the icon of the equipped tool. Once you see the tool's name appear, release the Tool Aid.

Once a Tool Aid has been applied to a tool, the tool will turn into a "Boost [tool name]." Boosted tools no longer lose endurance. Boosted tools may only be used for selective gathering. If you try to gather randomly, you'll get the error message.
If you have to gather selectively with a boosted tool, how many of each type of raw material will you get? Here's a chart to show you.

Stones | Energy | Herbs | |
Low-grade | 75 Flawed Stone | 75 Zeta Wave Energy | 75 Yellow Herb Leaf |
Medium-grade | 43 Imperfect Stone | 43 Epsilon Wave Energy | 43 Herb Trunk |
High-grade | 27 Quality Stone | 27 Gamma Wave Energy | 27 Green Herb Leaf |
As you can see, a Tool Aid will give you 75 low-grade raw materials, 43 medium-grade raw materials, or 27 high-grade raw materials. Choose what you want carefully. Once a boosted tool gives you the items you're gathering for, the tool will break.
Besides the regular Tool Aids that you can receive as drops, there are also Silver, Gold and Platinum Tool Aids. These three types of Tool Aids may be bought from Merchant Geres and Item Mall. If regular Tool Aids increase the amount you gather by 100%, then Silver Tool Aids increase it by 140%, Gold Tool Aids increase it by 200%, and Platinum Tool Aids increase it by 300%. The exact number of materials of each grade that each booster will get you are as follows:
Low-grade | Medium-grade | High-grade | |
Silver Tool Aid | 105 | 60 | 37 |
Gold Tool Aid | 150 | 86 | 54 |
Platinum Tool Aid | 225 | 129 | 81 |
