Elemental System
The Elemental System is a Damage Augmentation System. Those who possess the power of elements will hit stronger and last longer.
There are six elements for both attack (red frame) and defense (blue frame). Same as in nature some elements are more powerful than the others.

Some monsters across Iris are augmented with specific elements which increase their defense or attack. You can recognize them by the two small icons next to the monster's name. For example:
Fortunately most of the monsters have Neutral attack or defense. The icons near the name will look like uncolored grey sword and shield:
The Elements can have different levels which determine their strength. The highest - Level 4 - is available only for some boss monsters. For more details, please check out the Monster information pages.
Also the players can use elemental system. You can check which elemental attributes you are currently using in your Character Info screen (T, Alt + T). The number on the left represents the elemental level.
HOW TO USE ELEMENTAL SYSTEM
Players can change the type of elemental attack or defense by using:
- special skills with elemental option - highest possible elemental level is 1
The skills with elemental option will have elemental information given in blue (defense element) or red (attack element) under the skill description:

Important: The buffs and debuffs with elemental option will override your elemental attribute regardless of its level. |
- elemental jewels - can provide elements of level 1, 2 or 3
Elemental attack jewels can be put into weapons while elemental defense ones can be only used in shirts. For more details, please check out the Jewels page.
Important: Jewel with elemental attack only increase damage of regular hits not skills. |
- Random Elemental Scroll from Item Mall
Changes the elemental attack or defense of targeted enemy to random one for 5 minutes. Though in theory the elemental level is random too, the most common outcome is level 1. To use select a target and double click the scroll in inventory.

- Orange Ignition random element bonus
By activating the Orange Ignition buff you can change your attack to random elemental one of level 1 for the duration of 1 min. Ignition will override level 2 elemental gem in weapon.

DAMAGE FORMULA
Damage dealt to enemies can be calculated by using formula:
- attack level - level of your elemental attack stat (equal 1 for Neutral attack)
- defense level - level of your opponent elemental defense stat (equal to 1 for Neutral defense)
- multiplier - depends on type of element, see the table below
- base damage - damage made with the same type and level of elemental attack/defense (for example: level 1 Water vs. level 1 Water)*
* except Darkness where base can be calculated by dividing Darkness vs. Darkness damage by 0.9

EXAMPLES
Attack modification
Seekers of Agony have level 1 Fire defense. Lets say you make 1000 damage while attacking them with same type of attack - level 1 Fire.
Fire vs. Fire has 1.0 multiplier, so the damage you do is in fact the base damage. Your damage can increase or decrease depending on Element you chose. For example:
For higher level Elements the level difference has to be taken into account:
Defense modification
Seekers of Darkness have level 1 Darkness attack. Lets say you receive 1000 damage if your defense is the same type and level (level 1 Darkness). This is your base value. You will be hit for more or less depending on which Element you chose. For example:
Seekers of Agony have level 1 Fire defense. Lets say you make 1000 damage while attacking them with same type of attack - level 1 Fire.
Fire vs. Fire has 1.0 multiplier, so the damage you do is in fact the base damage. Your damage can increase or decrease depending on Element you chose. For example:
- if you don't use any elemental attack you will only make 0.7*1000 = 700 damage (Neutral vs. Fire multiplier is 0.7)
- melding level 1 Ice Elemental Jewel into that weapon will increase your damage 1.2 times (Ice vs. Fire multiplier is 1.2) giving 1.2*1000 = 1200 hit
- if you use level 1 Light Elemental Jewel the dealt damage will be only 0.9*1000 = 900 hit point
For higher level Elements the level difference has to be taken into account:
- level 2 Ice Element will do 2/1*1.2*1000 = 2400 damage
- level 2 Ligth Element - 2/1*0.9*1000 = 1800 damage
Defense modification
Seekers of Darkness have level 1 Darkness attack. Lets say you receive 1000 damage if your defense is the same type and level (level 1 Darkness). This is your base value. You will be hit for more or less depending on which Element you chose. For example:
- if you don't have any elemental defense (Neutral) you will be hit with 1.2*1000 = 1200 blow - not using any defense element will in fact hurt you the most
- using level 1 Earth Elemental Jewel will result in damage of 1.1*1000 = 1100 points
- when chosing level 1 Light Element the damage will be reduced to 0.8*1000 = 800 points
- level 2 Light element will lower the damage even more to 1/2*0.8*1000 = 400 points - this is the best value you can get against level 1 Darkness attack
- with level 2 Earth Element the damage taken will be equal to 1/2*1.1*1000 = 550 points
THINGS TO REMEMBER
- any elemental defense is better than no defense at all
- for attack you choose the type which has the highest possible multiplier against the elemental defense of enemy you're fighting with
- for defense you would like the type which has the lowest possible multiplier against elemental attack of your enemy (tip: if you're fighting opponents with many different elemental attack types the best choice would be Light Defense)
- level 2 elements are always better than level 1 (even if you chose the wrong type)
